An initiative by Ex-students of Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Narendrapur
“Till now you were living in Narendrapur, henceforth, Narendrapur would live within you” Satyada said, while saying adieu to us on the very last day of our stay at Narendrapur RKM. We felt emotional but failed to comprehend what he had meant. Now we realize that that he was correct to the T. We the alumnus of RKM Narendrapur have not only kept our heads high in wherever we are & whatever we are into, but also have spread the message of goodwill and service that we had learned during our stay at our second home called Narendrapur.
A few years back, quite a few of us came together and thought that the right time has come to pay back for the immeasurable gains that we had got during our formative days in college. To help RKM Residential college to support a few needy but meritorious students, a movement called Brotherhood Scholarship Fund was formed. Here contributions from ex students of RKM NDP & its well-wishers are collected and handed over to college authority to fund all expenses (education, food, books, hostel etc) of 3-5 meritorious but needy students. More than Rs. 2.75 lacs have been collected over last four years through this initiative.
This is the 5th year of the movement. Last four years we had kept the nominal amount for contribution @ Rs 2400/- per person. (12 months X Rs 200/- per month- roughly the money we spend on a movie). This time quite a few of us felt that in view of high rate of inflation, we should increase this amount. However, like all previous years, this year too, we have kept the nominal amount @ Rs 2400/- only. But we expect ex students to either volunteer more from their pocket or rope in more number of contributors to defeat the impact of inflation. Here we want to mention that minimum amount is only an indicator. It is the intention which is important and not the amount. This movement is nothing but a tool to facilitate your wish to help your fellow brothers. So any amount is welcome.Contribution can be sent through crossed cheque, bank draft or internet transfer. Cash is normally not taken. The entire sum collected, is handed over to the college authorities at one go. The receipt is shared with all contributors through e mail. It is not possible to provide individual receipts. However, if needed a letters can be issues from RKMR college authorities mentioning the names of the contributors.
