Brotherhood Scholarship Fund- 2009

Brotherhood Scholarship Fund- 2009
An initiative by Ex-students of Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Narendrapur

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon of 2004. A few of Ex-students of RKM Narendrapur were chit-chatting (more appropriate word would be- ‘bhat boka’) after a heavy meal. One thing led to other and they felt something constructive has to be done by the ex-students to help the present students. An idea of contributing Rs 2,400/- (at the rate of Rs 200/- per month for 12 months) for the meritorious, but financially needy students was agreed. All agreed that this is the amount one would generally spend if one went for a movie. That’s how Brotherhood Scholarship was born.

Today we are in 2009. In the past five years we had seen the number of contributors being increased to 46 from initial 20. Total amount contributed in 2004 was Rs. 52,000/-. In 2008 it touched Rs 129,000/-. And all put together we have contributed more than Rs 4 lakhs. We feel proud of our achievement.

We want to continue this initiative in the full blast. We want to spread the feeling of being proud and being responsible to as many ex-students as possible. We were in Narendrapur during our formative days. Now we want the spirit of Narendrapur to live within us. (This is not my word. I am merely echoing what Satya da had said on our last day at Narendrapur). Therefore, this year too we would undertake the initiative of collecting contribution for our fellow brothers, who need our help.

Considering the tough economic situation, in spite of several suggestions to increase the minimum contribution amount, we would keep it at Rs 2,400 for the 6th successive year. However, as followed in the previous years, contribution of any amount would be welcome.

Contribution would be collected through crossed cheque, bank draft or internet transfer. Cash would normally not be taken. The entire sum collected, would handed over to the college authorities at one go. The receipt would be shared with all contributors through e mail. It would not possible to provide individual receipts. However, if needed a letter can be issued from RKMR college authorities mentioning the names of the contributors.

Contributions can be sent to any of the following three people.
